Corporate Floors Now a Public Benefit Corporation

Nationally acclaimed flooring installation and maintenance company
solidifies its commitment to its social mission

(June 10, 2019 – Dallas, Texas) – Corporate Floors Inc., a nationally acclaimed commercial flooring installation and maintenance company, announced today that it has become a public benefit corporation (PBC). In doing so, Corporate Floors has joined a growing number of innovative companies, including Kickstarter, Plum Organics and Patagonia, that have officially declared their commitment to the greater social good.

“Like any good business, we strive to make a profit and better our community,” said CEO Thomas Holland. “As a public benefit corporation, we now must consider the interests of all stakeholders in our business, including the public, our communities and employees, in contrast to traditional corporations whose primary responsibility is to just the shareholders.  We now are prioritizing doing social good alongside our goal of generating profits for one cannot be done without the other.”

As stated in its newly amended legal documents, Corporate Floors will continue to invest its profits in the three main components of the company’s social mission:

  1. Advancing environmental sustainability initiatives through waste reduction and innovations in carpet and post-construction recycling.
  2. Advancing and fostering external initiatives or organizations providing professional development assistance to women in the facilities and property management industry.
  3. Advancing and fostering opportunities for employees and the communities in which they work.

Public benefit corporations are relatively new legal structures. Currently, 34 states have passed benefit corporation legislation, starting with Maryland back in 2010. Texas began allowing businesses to incorporate as public benefit corporations in 2017.

“There are a lot of amazing businesses out there doing incredible things with the people and communities they touch, and we are honored to be part of the family of public benefit corporations,” Holland said. “Converting Corporate Floors into a public benefit corporation has long been a personal goal of mine, and I’m thrilled that that goal is now a reality.”
